Incarnation Dome Silk
The iconographic scheme of this mosaic (3,780 sq. ft.) in the south nave dome of the Great Upper Church divides into quadrants depicting the Incarnation of Jesus: the Annunciation (Luke 1: 26-38); the Nativity (Luke 2: 4-7); the Wedding Feast at Cana (John 2: 1-11); and the Transfiguration (Matthew 17: 1-9). The four pendentives portray significant persons from the scriptural and prophetic accounts of the Incarnation of Jesus: the Prophet Isaiah, the Prophet Jeremiah, the Matriarch Sarah, and the Prophet Micah. The mosaic design is by Leandro Miguel Velasco (Rambusch Decorating Co.) and the mosaic manufacturer is Travisanutto, Spilimbergo, Italy. The text encircling the base of the dome is "And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. and we saw His glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14)
